IMMUNITY BOOSTERS THAT YOU HAVEN’T TRIED YET!

Welcome guys to yet another blog post on ElmaDavid Blog! For this week’s edition, I decided that it’s high time I wrote to you on a health topic, after all, this site was designed to feature not only relationship posts, but motivational, business as well as health related posts, that's right! So, for those of you who are aiming at maintaining a good health all through this year, this is just the right stop for you!

Now, I am quite certain that most of y‘all have already heard the word ‘immunity’ before now, however, if you haven’t, then, I am so eager to give you some insight as to what it entails. You see, the term ‘immunity’ in medical terms is simply referring to a fully protective resistance (of the body) against infection. In other words, we are talking about being healthy! Yes, one could comfortably claim to be in a good state of health when his or her immune system is fully active and functional. It is your immune system that protects your body from infections which could very well lead to diseases and ill-health. So, when someone makes a statement such as, “…..I am immune to cancer,” such a person is invariably saying that his/her body can agilely fight against cancerous cells (or infection) in his/her body!
From the topic, I guess it is easy to tell that my primary focus is not on the intricacies of immunity itself, but more on immunity boosters, and by that I mean things that can help boost up and revitalize your immune system. Now, full disclaimer guys, I am no health practitioner, so please do not get the idea that I am one. However, I will be sharing with you some unconventional food products that can boost up your immunity. These are food products which my family and I make use of on a very regular basis. I would be leaving mostly the highlights with you and will also include links that will direct you to more professional findings about these products so that you could carry out more research, if you so wish. So guys, I guess with all said so far, it’s safe to say that you could use this post as a guideline that will help you boost up your immunity and keep you healthy in the long run;
So here are some unconventional immunity boosters which I’m quite certain you haven’t tried yet;
SOURSOP LEAVES

Not the fruit guys, I am talking about the leaves which grow on a soursop tree. In case you are clueless and have no idea what I’m referring to, then do well to enlarge and view the image I have left here for you.
Soursop fruit is scientifically referred to as Annina muricata. It is a fruit which can be found in South East Asia, Africa, and South America. Just as the fruit is, soursop leaves are very good for you! It contains vitamin C which reduces the chances of oxidative stress in the tissues and organ systems of your body, thus, boosting body immunity. As a matter of fact, scientists have recently found out that soursop leaves can cure a wide variety of diseases including cancer. For a more detailed study on the health benefits of soursop leaves you can click on the link below;

Now, I’m pretty sure you’ll be wondering how you can make use of these leaves, I mean, not everyone would fancy the idea of chewing raw leaves, right? I wouldn’t even dream of it! Anyways like I said earlier, we make use of this product at home, so it’s only fair that I share with you how we use it; simple! We brew it and use it for tea……..I guess some of you would have already guessed that. Now, here’s a lil’ bonus for you as well, the recipe!!! Yes! I am gonna share the recipe, but feel free to make it to your desired taste if you wish to try it out for yourself. So here is the basic recipe;
Ingredients
Dried soursop leaves
Honey
Lemon/lime
Ginger (optional)
Water
Preparation
Prep. Time= 15 to 20 minutes
  •      Take the desired quantity of dried soursop leaves and place in a brewing pot.
  •     Add enough water. The water should rise above the leaves.
  •     Add some slices of lemon or lime to the mixture. You can also add some slices of fresh ginger.
  •     Bring to boil. This should take about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the quantity.
  •           Once boiled, pour out the tea into a teapot using a strainer.
  •     Serve in a tea cup while hot and add about 1tsp of honey to taste!
And that’s it! Easy as pie or should I say, A B C, instead?? **giggles**
This is one sure way to boost up your immunity this year, especially for all you tea lovers like me!

LEMON GRASS
No, I do not wish to turn you into some herbaceous creature, lol! I just want you to be in a better state of health than you were last year and lemon grass would do a really great job in that regard! Again, I have added a picture of what lemon grass looks like so that you do not mistake it for something else. So do well to zoom in and view.
Have you ever noticed anyone using lemon grass tea as treatment for fever? I have. Well, do the math and you’d clearly see why? Several studies have shown that lemon grass tea can be used to relieve cold, cough, abdominal pain, high blood pressure and even exhaustion. It is a very good sleeping aid and is also an immunity booster. It can be used to aid weight loss, regulate blood pressure, fight cancer cells, improve digestive health and lots more! For more information on the benefits of lemon grass tea, click on the link below;

The tea can also prepared by brewing the grass stems in water and bringing to boil, same way the soursop tea is prepared. Lemon/lime wheels can be used as garnish. This tea can either be served hot or iced.

GINGER
Ever heard the phrase, “…everything good is found in ginger…”?? It is an old Indian proverb. I guess this is why ginger is also referred to as a universal medicine. This spicy aromatic root has been used for a very long time in both traditional and Western healing systems to make tea. Research shows that tea made from ginger has high levels of vitamin C and amino acids, as well as various trace elements such as sodium, calcium, zinc, phosphorus and many others. It is thus a veritable means of boosting body immunity. For more information on the benefits of ginger tea, click the link below;

Ginger tea is not only very easy to prepare, it is also very readily available in the market. To make ginger tea, simply dice the ginger root into chunks or you could grate it into clean water poured into a brewing pot. This should be brought to boil and allowed to simmer for about five minutes, then strained into a tea pot or cut. Any garnish that suits you can be used, but as you might already know, lemon wheels are my favorite number.

THAT’S IT GUYS, UNTIL MY NEXT POST…………NEXT WEEK!!
